Can
RS or UO run in a window, rather then
full screen?
A
There
is no supported method of doing this,
but you can edit the registry to achieve
RS in a Window. NOTE that you should not
edit the Registry unless you know what
you are doing - you can severely affect
your system by playing around with the
Registry. Backup your Registry before
making any alterations.
Each
time you want to toggle between windowed
and full screen mode, you have to always
go to windows registry to edit a value
(and restart RS). But if you don't mind
playing long time in windowed mode,
here's step by step instructions:
1.
Pick Start -> Run
2. Type 'regedit' to the appearing box
& click OK.
3. Browse to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Red
Storm Entertainment\Rogue
Spear in appearing window.
4. Look for key named 'FullScreen' (should
have TRUE as value) and
double-click it to edit.
5. Change value data from 'TRUE' to
'FALSE' and click OK.
6. Exit Registry Editor and launch RS...it
will launch in a window. :o)
There's
a small possibility that this causes
the system to crash, but this really
shouldn't happen on most machines. To
restore RS to full screen mode, follow
the steps 1-4 exactly, but on step 5,
just restore the value to TRUE.
How
do I improve framerate, and lose a choppy
intro?
A
If you've
got a Voodoo 5 5500 and notice low framerates
with no apparent reason, try setting Anti-Aliasing
to 'Single Chip Only'.
Q
Where
have the Voodoo Drivers gone?
A
Early
in 2001 3dfx were bought out by nVidia,
and the 3dfx site was taken down. If you
are looking for a particular Voodoo driver
please try the following sites. At this
time the 3dfx site is in a state of disrepair,
but there is a page of driver links.
When
RS is uninstalled from your system the
uninstall routine leaves certain files
intact. This is so if you reinstall RS
you will not have to re-map your keys
or any other customised settings. However
if you do a complete removal of all folders
these are the files you may wish to backup
first;
Rommel.kmp [keymaps]
the data\save folder [saved games]
the data\plan folder [if you use custom
plans]
boundkey.txt [multiplayer bound keys]
data\armpatch [custom multiplayer armpatch]
userkit#.txt [custom kits]

Q
Where
can I play Rainbow games on-line?
A
There a number of sites that offer
multiplayer games for every title in
the Rainbow Six series, they are all
free to sign up and usually involve
a small download to get you started.
Yes you
can play, and even Host with a firewall
active. In Rogue Spear select Options
then click on the Multiplayer tab. Tick
the Firewall box, and you should be able
to play on-line with the firewall still
active. If you need a Firewall you can
find an excellent free firewall at www.zonelabs.com
With Zonealarm even though you have the
lock on you can tell the program which
applications to allow data back and forth
on the internet such as RS. It then locks
out all other unauthorised entry such
as port scanning or back orifice attempts.
The actual ports that should be left open
are 2346-2348.
How
do I make my own missions with the Mission
Editor?
A
Redstorm supply, but do not provide
support for, Mission Editors. These
allow users to create their own RS Missions.
PlanetRainbowSix also have a Tutorial
Rogue
Spear allows many options to be switched
off to improve gameplay on slower machines.
However the effect of each of these options
is left to the imagination as it is not
documented. You can find comparison images
at our report
and further explanation can be found here
Q
How
do I create my own Armpatches?
A
Armpatches
are in RSB format - in order for your
paint package to read and write in RSB
you will need the plug in off your RS
CD. Once you have the plug in you can
create a 32x32 pixel patch and save it
into you armpatch folder in the correct
RSB format. If you do not have a software
package compatible with the plug in you
can get a free convertor here.
To use your new patch go to multiplayer
options. A step by step guide can be found
here.
Jester's Armpatches are here.
Q
How
do I play by IP connection?
A
Playing
by IP is easy. If you are hosting the
game you will need to know your IP number.
If you are joining a game, you will need
the host to tell you what his IP number
is. The other number you need is the Port
number, which is 2346. With these two
numbers simply launch RS, select Multi-player
from the menu, then select either Join
or Create. Enter your two numbers, and
away you go!
Q
I
get a mousewheel fault when trying to
remap they keys in RS
A
This happens
with out-of-date Logitech drivers. There
is a gamers patch that is supposed to
correct this fault, but there are reports
that Logitechs Patch does not work. Update
Here The best solution if that fails
is to disable you mouse drivers from the
system tray, remap your keys, then enable
the mouse again my selecting mouse from
the system control panel
Q
How
do I get in-game speech on Multi-player?
A
There
are 2 third party products. Try Roger
Wilco or Microsoft
Game Voice.
Roger Wilco is now officially a GameSpy
product and even has a Mac version. MS
Game Voice has a free chat download called
Game
Voice Share.
Q
I
get a black screen when I attempt to join
an Multi-player game
A
Firstly
check that your armpatch setting matches
that of the server/host PC. If that doesn't
help you will need to check TCP/IP settings.
Q
I
have sound problems
A
This are
usually easily resolved by updating your
soundcard drivers from the manufacturer's
website and then updating to DirectX latest
version. You should also use the configure
Rogue Spear program to select the sound
card installed in your system.
Q
Can
I install RS on Windows 2000
A
RS
Version 2.05 should install correctly
to Win2000. However it is not supported
by Red Storm; Win2000 is a business operating
system, however it is possible to play
RS on Win2000. If you have problems make
sure and install Win2K Service Pack 1
