Non-overwriting Mods and Maps (NATO and LWM)
DAYWANDERER

After some mod talk I decided to install Lloyd's Weapon Mod 5.0 again, and I've been playing with NATO3 for the last few days as well, so here's my comparison of these two popular Rogue Spear Mods.

Models: Easy win for LWM.
The infamous NATO models have no form, they're just some flat thingys with textures on them. LWM's got generally better looking models, the best I've seen in fact, but some of them are taken from Sputnik's mod. The ugly color of the HK G11 is also a big minus for NATO, the textures are of average quality and so are a few of the inventory bitmaps.

Sounds:
LWM's got some very good sounds, but several of the weapons uses the ones from RS, which is a drawback. NATO3(to my knowledge) use none of the default sounds. A nice detail in LWM is that the Beretta Cougar come in three models; 8000, 8040 and 8045, but the fact that they all use the original RS .45 sound really screws it up. NATO3's only got the 8045 model, but at least they got the sound right.

Weapons: This is a tough one.
NATO3 has got the most weapons, maybe even as much as double the amount in LWM. The MP5-Navy in LWM is cooler than the original one(which is used in NATO) and the models are, as said above, much better in LWM. No G11 is a minor drawback for LWM, especially since it has a perfect, black G11 model. Unfortunately, the G11 model is used on a CAWS(Close Assault Weapons System) shotgun, which can't even be used onlin because it can load High-Explosive rounds. NATO3 wins when it comes to the coolest reticules, and the fight for the best weapons also go to NATO. The more the merrier ;)

Overall:
One thing that I haven't mentioned yet are the wound effects. I've talked much about the NATO3 wound effects, which are much better than the default RS ones. However, after playing LWM again I must say that LWM's got the best wounds. Not overly bloody like the NATO ones, yet not as pathetic as the default ones. The best ones I've seen to date. Still, the overall winner must be NATO. Plenty of weapons and better sounds make this a winner IMO, but only barely. The models are bad, but the models are also of least concern when you play. You can't see your own weapon, and when you encounter an opponent his weapon is the last thing that's on your mind. Many good and well-known weapons, as well as a few lesser known ones, together with the excellent sound effects makes NATO a joy to play with. But don't get me wrong, LWM is extremely good too, but there's something "missing" in it. Perhaps one day we will be lucky enough to witness the release of a mod with the models and wound effects from LWM and the sound and weapons from NATO3. Until then I will continue my search for the question, "Why the hell did the guys at ARMM change the way the operatives hold my favorite weapon, the Steyr AUG, to the MP5-PDW way(shoulders up, looking really stupid..)?!"
