Creating Moving Vehicles in Urban Operations
Basic Tutorial
Sammie

This tutorial assumes you are capable of opening and saving missions using the Rogue Spear and Urban Ops Editor. If you are not, please learn these skills first.

Step 1 - Preparation

Before you start placing vehicles and drivers (characters), plan your path for the car. This is important to know to coordinate these placements.

Step 2 - Driver (Character) Creation

In order for a car to move, it must have a driver. Drivers must intersect the car in order to begin driving. Drivers are placed the following way:

  1. Got to the Character Tab.
  2. Click on either Hostage Team or Terrorist Team (I suggest using Hostage Team while learning).
  3. Click New. Enter a name for the New Team (I suggest using Driver 1 - that way, if necessary, you can name the next driving team Driver 2, then next Driver 3, etc. This helps keep it organized).
  4. Click OK. Highlight the Team you just created.
  5. Click New. Enter a name for the New Character (I suggest using Driver1 - that way, if you want more than 1 character in your car, you can name the next driving team character Driver2, etc. This helps keep it organized). - Click OK.
  6. Highlight the Team Character you just created.
  7. Click on the General Properties.
  8. Select the Actor Filename, and then select the corresponding Kit Filename (using browse)
  9. Click OK. Under Plans, Select Default Plan from the Current Plan drop-down-menu.
  10. Under Plans, Click Add - then Select Patrol Path - Click OK.
  11. Right Click on the map once, then Left Click to place the Patrol Path start, and continue Left Clicking until desired Patrol Path is completed (NOTE: You should place the starting position of the Patrol Path on the drivers side of the vehicle, and have the Patrol Path move through the vehicle to the passenger side of the vehicle [Obviously you haven't created a vehicle yet, this is based on your preparation from Step 1]).
  12. Under Plans, Select Starting Locations from the Current Plan drop-down-menu.
  13. Right Click on the map once, then Left Click to place the driver's Starting Location (NOTE: I prefer to place this just outside of the beginning of the Patrol Path to ensure the Driver approaches from the driver's side of the vehicle).

Step 3 - Vehicle Creation

NOTE: You cannot use the golf cart (and maybe others) as a moving vehicle.

  1. Go to the Vehicle Tab. Click on New.
  2. >Enter a name for the New Vehicle (I suggest using a name that corresponds with the Driver - i.e. Car1, Car2, etc). Click OK.
  3. Highlight the Vehicle you just created. Click on the General Properties.
  4. Select a Vehicle Filename (using browse) (I suggest you use the black2seater or silver2seater to get started. (NOTE: Some cars allow for more passengers than others - Some are labeled and some are not - You will have to play around with this).
  5. Highlight the Driver you want driving the vehicle from the Passenger List. Click OK.
  6. Under Vehicle (menu on the right), click Add.
  7. Select Patrol Path from the New Plan Step drop-down-menu. Click OK.
  8. Right Click on the map once, then Left Click to place the starting location for the Patrol Path (NOTE: The Vehicle's starting Patrol Path position and the Patrol Path of the driver (character) MUST intersect).
  9. Continue Left Clicking to place the desired Patrol Path.
  10. Under Vehicle, Click Add. Select Change Speed from the New Plan Step drop-down-menu.
  11. Enter the desired speed (speed box appears below Vehicle menu).

A key thing to remember: The Driver's (character) Patrol Path should intersect the Vehicle from the driver's side of the Vehicle and pass through to the passenger's side of the Vehicle.

To place more Moving Vehicles, you will need to repeat all of these steps. Remember to keep it organized; Have Driver1 drive Vehicle1, Driver2 drive Vehicle2, etc.

I hope this tutorial helps, and saves you the frustrating experience (that I went through) of trying to figure this out on your own. This is a basic tutorial to help get you started. There are many more things you can do with moving vehicles. I am still trying to figure them out. :) Good Luck!
