Vegas 2 Hits Wiki Top 50
Posted by Rocky on Saturday, April 5 2008

For all the wrong reasons Vegas 2 has hit the wiki top 50 wiki top 20 for edits this month. Vandalism and references to parts of a donkey's anatomy seem to be the order of the day. The Wiki police are doing a good job of keeping the Vegas 2 entry clean and up to date with comprehensive Vegas 2 information though.

SimHQ reviews Vegas 2 X360
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, April 1 2008

What makes reading game reviews on niche sites such as SimHQ especially worthwhile is that they have staff dedicated to each genre of game, that really know their games inside out.

Such is the case with Magnum's SimHQ review of Vegas 2. Magnum knows the Rainbow Six series inside out and it's that depth of knowledge that makes reading his review a bit special.

The review explains the differences between the standard and limited editions of the game, XP and ACES explained, kit, weapons and armour, and there's a a pretty neat face scan screenshot. There's a huge section on single player and multiplayer that explains in some depth what is cool, what works, and what doesn't.

The review goes on for eight pages and cover much more than listed above and is sprinkled with many screenshots. Check it out for a good unbiased and well informed review of the X360 version of Vegas 2.

Vegas 2 : X360 v PS3
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, March 25 2008

Gametrailers have posted a Vegas 2 Xbox360 v PS3 comparison video. As usual with these comparisons, you have to look pretty hard to spot any differences. What I did notice was softer shadows in the X360 version, the PS3 shadows looked quite harsh is some scenes, although the lighting seemed to be slightly better on the PS3 version. The video doesn't give any indication on frame rates unfortunately, as there have been reports of low FPS on the X360 version. If you have any views on the visuals or frame rates, post 'em up!

Gamespy Vegas 2 Review
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, March 18 2008

Gamespy have published their review for the X360 version of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, PC gamers will need to wait until next month. Make sure and read the full review, but if you can't be bothered reading all three pages - here's a quick summary.

Gamespy were disapointed to find some old Vegas 1 bugs still present, and also in the limiting of co-op to 2 players, or three for terrorist hunt. Things they liked included the new ranking and ACES rewards system, although they found ACES open to fairly easy abuse. They note a slight convergance of titles, with the appearance of a Ghost Recon type cross comm feature appearing in Vegas 2.

Frustratingly in this era of next gen consoles, they also point out that iffy artifical intelligence continues to cause friendly characters to act with occasional mind numbing idiocy. This is one area where the Gamespy review itself seems confused, as they seem to think the AI has been improved, but then go on to list a few examples of AI madness.

Gamespy conclude that Vegas 2 is "barely more than an expansion pack", but anyone who enjoyed the first game will more than likely be engaged by this follow up.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Co-op Mode
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, March 4 2008

Gamespy took a look at Rainbow Six Vegas 2 co-op mode this week and reported their findings in a one page report. After rightly pointing out that Ubisoft have dropped an awful clanger by reducing co-op from 4 player fun to a rather restrictive 2 player mode, the preview struggles to find anything positive to say about Vegas 2 other than neat map designs. Kudos to Gamespy for not being afraid to tell it like it is.

Feel free to discuss R6V2 Co-op, or the Gamespy preview in particular, in our forums here, where we've kicked off the discussion with a question about the viability of drop in play, when co-op is limit to 2 players.

G4 R6V2 Videos

Over at G4 Morgan Webb takes a look at Rainbow Six Vegas 2 with Steve Masters from Ubisoft. The chat covers some of the new features in Vegas 2, and the video hints at thankfully improved graphics over the first title. Check it out here.

Once you've watched that, check out this additoinal clip that goes in to more details of the weapons on offer, including the weapons on offer and bullet penetration. If you are a weapons nut though, you won't want to miss the weapons specific video.

Gamespy Hands On
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, February 26 2008

Gamespy spent sometime playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on the X360 recently and have just posted up their opinion here.

Although they played the Xbox 360 version, there is some news of PC features too - like being able to have your own face represented in game. They also explian the cover system remains the same as the previous title, although some fans are already complaining that a cover bug from the original has been carried over to this sequel un-addressed.

For more details on the single player aspect of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 read Gamespy's two page report here.
